Decorative Rock

One ton of up to 2" rock will cover:

240 SQ.FT.......1" DEEP
120 SQ.FT.......2" DEEP
80 SQ.FT.........3" DEEP
60 SQ.FT.........4" DEEP
50 SQ.FT.........5"DEEP
40 SQ.FT.........6" DEEP
20 SQ.FT........12" DEEP

To Estimate your tonnage at a 3" depth (common):
Divide your Square Footage by 80= Tonnage

Example: 3/4" River Rock needs to cover a yard 30 ft by 40 ft at three inches deep.

1. 30 x 40= 1200 SQ. FT.
2. 1200/ 80= 15 Tons @ 3" Deep.

How to Install Rock:

1. Clear area of all debris- weeds, old material; then level it out and measure to find out how much material you need.

2. Decide what size of material you need: For high traffic areas such as walkways and driveways, use a 3/4" rock, or any of our driveway materials. For areas that receive little foot traffic such as borders, sloped areas, or around the foundation of a house use a 1 1/2" rock. For steep slopes, you need to use a larger rock, such as rip rap (ranging from 3" to 12").

3. Decide on what type of underlayment you need. Plastic is a low cost weed and water barrier. Use plastic around a foundation to control drainage. For a longer lasting material that will keep out weeds and allow water to get into surrounding plant areas, use fabric. Fabric comes in 3.5 oz thickness and plastic in 6 Mil.

4. Install your edging and lay down your underlayment. You want to overlap your underlayment by 4" at the joints and by 3" near the edges. If you have gaps in the underlayment, you will have weeds grow up in that area, so get extra when you decide how much you need.

5. If you use plastic, be sure to be careful not to puncture holes in it at this stage. Start installing rock at the bottom of the area so that you don't have to walk on the underlayment, but rather the material.

6. Level out the material and give it a spray over with a garden hose to clean off dirt and bring out the fresh look of your new rock.

Rip Rap

One Ton Covers:
2"- 4" Rock...............................55-60 SQ.FT.
4"- 8" Rock...............................35-45 SQ.FT.
5"- 12" Rip Rap........................30-40 SQ.FT.
18" -24" Rip Rap......................20-35 SQ.FT.
Cripple Crk Gold Rip- Rap.......40-45 SQ.FT.

Rip Rap is for use on steep slopes. It helps control erosion and drainage. When placing Rip Rap, be sure to place the larger stones at the bottom.
When placing Rip Rap on a slope for any purpose, it is important to keep water from washing out the dirt from under the rock. You can do this by grouting, plants, or fabric/ plastic lining.
Grout- Wet mix or create your own mix of 3 parts breeze to 1 part cement. Brush it into the cracks, and then spray down with water.
Plants- Fill in the gaps with topsoil, then plant sedum or any other plants in the cracks for a natural look.
Plastic or Fabric- Place on the slope before stacking rock.

Flagstone

1 Ton Thick Flagstone covers 125 SQ.FT.
1 Ton Thin Flagstone covers 150 SQ.FT.

Flagstone is sandstone with a wide flat surface that ranges in thickness from 1 1/2 " to 3 " thick. Because of its flat surface, it is often used for patios and walkways.

To install flagstone, you first need to level out the area you intend to place the stone. Then, put down about 1" of fine sand (such as our masonry sand). Place pieces in your desired pattern about 1/2" to 3/4" apart. Work pieces into the sand to get them level with the others, the sweep sand into the cracks to the top of the flagstone to help keep it in place. You can also space the flagstone up to 2" apart and fill with breeze or the mortar mixture mentioned above, small rocks (up to 3/4"), or concrete.

Soils

It's important to improve soils before seeding or sodding. By adding organic matter, soils can retain water. Our soils are sold by the ton and soil amendments are sold by the yard. There are approximately 1.25 tons/ 1 yard. We carry fill dirt and topsoil (screened, and grades A and B) - which provide a good base material for growing vegetation.
Our soil mixes are:
Tri-Mix- A planters mix for plants, shrubs, bushes, and garden areas.
Lawn and Garden- Use in your lawn and garden areas. This light mix allows plant roots to grow through easier. .
Cow Manure- Add to topsoils and other composts for a nutrient rich mix.
Veggie Compost- Aged 2-3 Years. Works great to break up heavy soils such as soils rich in clay. Add to flower and vegetable gardens as well as new lawns.
Boss Compost- Aged 3 year Arabian Stallion with quality Steer manure. Mixed with wood fines. Light, fluffy and very, very clean.
Top and Cow- Works well in a vegetable garden tilled in yearly. Used to enrich soil before laying down sod.
Humus- Fine bits of wood and broken down soils. Humus can be used to fill in holes after aeration, and works well as a garden soil buster (stems and roots can grow through the mix easier).
Special Blends- We can mix any of these ingredients. Give us a call.
